New features of iPad keyboard with IOS 5

Several new features have been added to the iPad keyboard with iOS 5. One of the primary improvements is the ability to undock and split the keyboard. By holding on the bottom-right key, you’ll get the new options to undock or split the keyboard.

Once the keyboard is undocked or split you can move it anywhere on the screen by holding your finger on the bottom-right key and sliding it up and down the screen.

To return the keyboard, hold again the bottom right key and tap Dock and Merge.

Emoji Keyboard

There is also a Emoji keyboard added with iOS 5. You will need to go to Settings> General> Keyboard> International Keyboards> Add New Keyboard and select Emoji, to use the Emoji keyboard.

Now you’ll see a new key added to the left of the space bar (it is in the images above).
The following image shows the appearance of Emoji keyboard. After you have found and selected your image just tap the key on the bottom-left to bring back the main keyboard.

There are hundreds images with Emoji which can be added to texts, notes, iMessage, notes, emails, etc. The following is a sample of the Emoji icons available on the iPad keyboard.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Another cool feature added to the keyboard with iOS 5 is the Shortcuts. To add shortcut go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Add New Shortcut. Now you can insert a phrase and the shortcut.

If you type the shortcut and hit the spacebar your phase will automatically be added. This can be time saving when using iMessage, emails, todo list, or notes, etc.
